SUCCESS STORY

Georgia HOPE Provides Summer Fun Through Therapeutic Play with Camp HOPE

Each summer Georgia HOPE hosts summer camps in Northwest Georgia called Camp HOPE. Camp HOPE is a week long camp filled with therapeutic activities for elementary and middle-school age children. The Camp HOPE theme for 2021 was "Heroes for HOPE" and included fun therapeutic activities including arts, crafts, exercise and therapy groups. This year, Camp HOPE returned to Murray Co. for the third time serving 30 elementary aged children! Festivities were led by 9 Georgia HOPE staff, 3 community volunteers, and 3 high school volunteers who received college scholarships. 2021 was Camp HOPE's inaugural year in Lumpkin Co., serving 15 middle-school age students with 6 staff.

Overall, 45 children attended Camp HOPE under the supervision of 21 Georgia HOPE staff and volunteers. "I just wanted to take a moment to thank Georgia HOPE for the wonderful camp that was put on for our middle school students," says Kerri Whitmire, ED. S. "The students were able to make positive memories that will help them when things may not be going their way." The campers overwhelmingly enjoyed the day camp activities and many of the children (and grown ups!) are anxiously awaiting next year's Camp HOPE.
