Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Welcome and orient the child and family to the CAC facility; Accompany the parent/guardian in the waiting area during the forensic interview; Supervision of child victim while interviewer or MDT talk to the non-offending caretaker
- Provide Spanish-speaking services including, but not limited to, Intake Interviews, Forensic Interviews, follow-up contact, post-interviews with caregivers and/or family members
- Provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for caregivers to express feelings about the incidents leading up to the investigation
- Conduct Intake Interviews with NOC; Gather and maintain relevant demographic information on families seen at the Center for records and relevant follow up contacts; This often includes crisis intervention
- Conduct Forensic Interviews of alleged child/adolescent victims of abuse, as requested, on behalf of the Multi-Disciplinary Team members.
- Testify in civil and criminal court proceedings, as appropriate or requested, on the interview process and techniques as well as on specific interviews in individual cases.
- Ongoing training in the areas of Forensic Interviewing, Family Advocacy, child protection and/or child abuse, developmental issues, and other relevant, ongoing topics of education
- Engage caregivers in crisis counseling and conflict resolution, when appropriate
- Assist family members and caregivers in locating resources relevant to child maltreatment or stabilization such as local counseling services, subsistence programs, and Crime Victim’s Compensation
- Fully assess each family's need for services related to finances, food and housing, health insurance, domestic violence or any other issues and providing appropriate referrals when applicable, at onset and at closure
- Assist family members in safety planning within the home, when applicable
- Locate culturally appropriate services and referrals for families seen at the CAC
- Complete follow-up contact and evaluation with support people of clients
- Collaborate with members of Law Enforcement, Division of Family and Children Services, the Office of the District - Attorney, and A Better Way Children’s Advocacy Center staff/volunteers, as well as other community agencies.
- Attend and contribute appropriately at CAC Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Meetings, Case Staffing(s) w/referral sources, CAC Staff Meetings, and any other relevant meetings or events pertaining to the cases
- Records and maintains monthly statistical data for funding sources, when applicable
- Demonstrates passion for the mission of Advocates for Children and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives through active participation in related programs, training, and advocacy efforts.
- Demonstrate a commitment to PQI and attend meetings as required
- Provide all other services
Qualifications & Skills
- Possess A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Sociology or a related field. Have at least 2 years’ experience working with families and children, or have graduated with a Master’s Degree.
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish required.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen.
- Must have a valid Driver’s license and current insurance.
- Proficient written and oral skills.
- Basic Word Processing knowledge is required.
