Summary: Lutheran Services of Georgia (LSG), is a nonprofit agency with a mission to promote services that enhance the stability, wellness, health, and safety of individuals and families in Georgia.

The Regional Director of Resource and Program Development has overall responsibility for successful execution of LSG’s strategic plan and implementation of the mission in the North region of Georgia. The position is responsible for funding, public relations and program development. The Regional Director develops relationships to build LSG’s visibility, impact and financial resources within communities it serves, or plans to serve, and will design, implement and manage strategies that support the sustainability and growth of LSG programs in the region.

 This position's home office can be located in either the Athens or Rome location.


  • Develops and maintains professional relationships to promote collaboration, funding and program development for LSG within the North Region.
  • Oversees the growth of programs within the region, including the expansion of existing programs into new locations.
    • Evaluates, develops, and implements a comprehensive resource development strategy to include corporate, foundation, and government grants/contracts, fundraising events, donors, etc. to increase funding needed for program sustainability and growth.
    • Builds, maintains and enhances donor relations with private individuals, foundation representatives, local business representatives, local church and civic leaders and public grant funders.
    • Oversees the management and planning of LSG regional fundraising events and attends events to steward and cultivate relationships with existing and future donors.
    • Works collaboratively with Performance and Compliance Program Managers to ensure existing programs are in compliance with all internal and external requirements
    • Works collaboratively with Performance and Compliance Program Managers to ensure program activities are being implemented within the scope of the organization.
    • Builds a regional Advisory Committee in order to increase sphere of influence approaches to new donors and to community organizations/agencies that support program sustainability and growth.
  • Collaborates with Program Directors to create regional program development plans that include programs to be developed, locations targeted for growth, and sources of funding to support development.
  • Maintains frequent communication with Program Directors to implement program development plans according to the regional strategy and to ensure coordination in leadership and support for program staff and services.
  • Coordinates and facilitates regional office Leadership Team meetings.
  • Works with Program Directors and Workforce Services to address employee issues impacting work performance and work environment.
  • Conforms with all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions required by LSG. Adheres to all professional standards required by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and complies with the various federal, state or local laws that apply to and regulate their job responsibilities.
  • Oversees building and facilities and the management of site processes and supplies.
  • Oversees office preparation for onsite program audits, reviews, monitoring visits; visits by funders or potential funders; and agency events.
  • Ensures that COA accreditation standards are maintained in the region.
  • Complies with the various federal, state or local laws that apply to and regulate the job responsibilities.
  • Strives toward excellence in the areas of innovation, performance and extraordinary acts.
  • Researches foundations, corporations, and government sources to find matches between their interests and LSG program needs.
  • Collaborates with Program Directors and Program Managers to determine where grant opportunities can most appropriately serve agency programs.
  • Participates in Program – Development – Finance meetings to evaluate the fit of grant opportunities with Program and LSG strategic plans and budgets.
  • In collaboration with Program Directors and Program Managers, develops and writes grant proposals for LSG program and operating support. Prepares and submits final grant applications and consults regularly with Development leadership.
  • Develops and updates standard grant content such as agency description and program descriptions, and maintains files of frequently needed content such as 501(c)(3) letter, bylaws, organization charts, etc.
  • Develops and maintains a tracking system (in conjunction with other regional offices and development) for proposals and reports, oversees reporting to funders for grants awarded, and provides regular reports to Program Directors on grant activities.

Non-Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet regional office needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises, leads guides and supports the Programs within the North Region. Interviews and selects staff with input from others. Supports Programs in recruitment and selection of new hires. Supports Workforce Services and Programs, as needed, in orienting new staff and completing check out for staff exiting positions. Orients, coaches and counsels staff. Ensures training requirements and needs are met. May coordinate, facilitate or conduct in-service training. Delegates and oversees work assignments. Monitors performance and adherence to LSG’s mission, policies, procedures and service philosophy. Conducts timely performance reviews. Recommends or initiates personnel actions such as salary increases, promotions, disciplinary actions including performance improvement plans and terminations. Writes job descriptions. Attends management training, etc.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Manages funds and other LSG assets i.e. supplies and equipment in a manner that is considered productive in the best interest of LSG, and conforms with the approved budgets.
  • Oversees management of Program funds allocated for facility, supplies and events.
  • Develops and manages the budget for programs within the region.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree. Preferred fields of study include non-profit management, public administration, social work or related social science field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in social services programming. Two (2) years leading or actively participating in local resource development.
  • Five (5) years of management experience, including experience hiring, training and managing professional staff.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience working for a non-profit.
  • Knowledge of the principles and best practices of fundraising management.
  • Knowledge of governmental fundraising opportunities.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate programs, meetings, and special events related to fundraising.
  • Ability to maintain the security and accountability of donated funds and/or assets.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for LSG’s mission.
  • Ability to build sense of teamwork at the site level and between state level and local program staff.
  • Exhibits a highly professional image and demeanor with the ability to serve as a positive representative for LSG.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including presentation skills before a large group. English as primary language.
  • Must be self-directed and self-motivated.
  • Must be compliance and policy driven.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex systems and processes.
  • Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation with various metrics.
  • Computer skills in Excel, Databases, Word, Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have the ability to communicate with all persons in a culturally competent manner.
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality.
  • Must hold a valid Georgia Driver’s license, appropriate auto insurance and a good driving record.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, competencies, skills and knowledge that ensures the successful completion of the essential job responsibilities.

Physical Demands: Regularly required to talk and hear. Required to stand, walk, and sit. Required to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls: and reach with hands and arms. Required to operate personal vehicle.

Employee frequently lifts and or moves up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions: The employee travels by automobile and is exposed to changing weather conditions. Requires overnight travel. Member of mobile workforce. 20% of time spent traveling by automobile.
