Weekly Update January 20, 2017
2017 Together Georgia Day at the Capitol
Together Georgia members participated in the 2017 Together Georgia Day January 18 at the Capitol. Although the House and the Senate were not in session, key legislators were on site for the House Appropriations Committee hearing, which included Department leaders. Providers experienced 'face time' with DHS Commissioner Robyn Crittenden, DFCS Deputy Ginger Pryor, and DFCS Office of Legislative Affairs, Ashley Fielding. TG leaders had opportunity for targeted discussions with Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver, Rep. Andy Welch, Rep. Pat Gardner, Rep. Katie Dempsey, and others. Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver received special recognition for receiving the 2016 GCCF Distinguished Leader Award. Rep. Mathiac expressed interest in our work and indicated that she is an adoptive parent; Rep. Bazemore shared her experience growing up in a family that adopted eight children, the first four of whom were a sibling group. Every House and Senate legislator received an invitation that included information about Together Georgia and a list of all TG member agencies. It was a productive and meaningful day. Thank you to all who participated!
THE ASK: Legislation in 2016 resulted in some procedural changes that affected RBWO providers. DFCS and DJJ signed an MOU to change the licensing and contracting processes for RBWO providers. In addition, RCCL has been coordinating annual inspections with DFCS and DJJ--a number of providers have experienced this new process. DFCS also hired staff to coordinate administrative appeals of licensing and contracting evaluations. Representative Welch would like to hear from the residential providers. Your input is needed ASAP - we will forward responses to Rep. Welch next week. Please link here to respond https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2TSBKMX
